Financial District Finds That Are Far From Boring
The Financial District may seem like a place for number crunching but dig a bit deeper and you’ll find all of the hidden gems.
In warm months, make your way to the secret garden located behind the Dynamic Funds Tower at One Adelaide Street East. The garden feels like a secluded paradise, housing beautiful flower beds and meticulously groomed plant sculptures. Nearby at the TD Centre, be sure to check out “The Pasture”, a group of 7 life-size sculpted cows created by Canadian sculptor Joe Fafard.
Down the street is Design Exchange, a mecca for design buffs. The museum is host to many notable traveling exhibitions and its collection spans from industrial to fashion. It’s a must-see if you’re in the area.
If you grew up playing sports, the Hockey Hall of Fame perfectly blends entertainment and education, making for a great afternoon activity even if you aren’t a die-hard puck fan. First established in 1943, the Hall of Fame is now housed in an ornate old bank building at the foot of Yonge Street.
Be sure to stop by McEwan to browse gourmet ingredients and savoury snacks from the hot bar of prepared foods. The express version of celebrity Chef Mark McEwan’s family of restaurants provides excellent options to grab and go. From nut butters to artisanal jellies, you’ll learn of and taste food you never knew existed.
Finally, spend lunch, happy hour, or beyond at the Drake One Fifty. You’ll love the lavish but light-hearted ambiance, designed by interior architect Martin Brudnizki. It’s surely one of the most stylish restaurants in the Financial District.
