Uber applauds the City of Ottawa and the leadership of Mayor Watson, Chair Deans, city council and city staff for being the first jurisdiction in Ontario to adopt a progressive regulatory framework that embraces ridesharing.
On April 13, Ottawa City Council will vote to regulate ridesharing. We need your help to demonstrate what Ottawa can achieve with smart, progressive regulations for ridesharing, and what’s at stake if Council gets this wrong.

Yesterday, the City of Edmonton became the first Canadian jurisdiction to adopt progressive regulations that embrace ridesharing!
Vancouver City Council has clearly stated that they’d like to see the provincial government show leadership on ridesharing – 84% of Lower Mainland residents have expressed their hope that Minister Stone and Premier Clark will work to provide more transportation options for British Columbians by collaborating on ridesharing rules and we are ready to quickly work with them to make this happen.
Uber is thrilled to announce a relationship with Intact Financial, Canada’s largest home, auto and business insurer. We have been working with Intact Financial to develop an innovative, new insurance plan for ridesharing in Canada that we hope will come to market soon. This plan will be the first of its kind designed exclusively for the ridesharing industry in Canada.
In the coming month, we expect the City of Edmonton to release draft recommendations on ridesharing regulations. This is an exciting development where Edmonton has the opportunity to show leadership.
City Hall is considering regulations for uberX and has asked for input from all Torontonians on their experience with Uber, taxis, and limousines in Toronto.
