Let’s keep Uber in Quebec
Montreal, QC – Close to 50,000 thousands of Quebecers have signed a petition to support ridesharing just as the provincial government begins consultations at the National Assembly. Jean-Nicolas Guillemette, General Manager of Uber Québec, stated the following at a press conference Thursday morning surrounding by hundreds of supporters:
“Quebecers have spoken very clearly: they want to continue to have access to ridesharing, ” Mr. Guillemette said. “Before the launch of uberX in Quebec, we met with the Ministry of Transport to ask ridesharing regulations. We are encouraged by the government’s decision to strike a parliamentary committee and we are eager tol participate in these proceedings . “
Mr. Guillemette was joined by hundreds of Uber users and driver-partners. In Montreal alone, hundreds of thousands of Quebecers use ridesharing and thousands drive on the platform as a means to earn.
“With Uber, I can get around reliably, affordably and safely,” said Christine Beaudoin, a Uber user for the past year. “With the GPS tracking system, I feel safe throughout my ride. For me, this is the most important factor.”
“Driving on the Uber platform gives me an extra source of income,” said Gisele, a partner-driver for the past five months. “I manage my own schedule while driving the hours I want, without constraints.”
The rally was held Thursday morning just hours before leaders of Uber Québec participated in the parliamentary commission at the National Assembly later in the day.
