Behind The Wheel in Edmonton: Meet Derryn
In Edmonton, Uber is helping create thousands of new opportunities to earn that didn’t exist before. Uber driver partners are central to the success we’ve seen in Edmonton and across the world; and we thought you’d enjoy finding out more.
While many of our partners drive full time, others drive to supplement their income. In our ongoing series of driver profiles, today, we’re going Behind the Wheel with Derryn to learn more about why he chose to drive in Edmonton. Read on to find out how you can take advantage of the safe and flexible earning opportunities offered by the Uber platform.
Why did you decide to partner with Uber?
I chose to partner with Uber after being laid off for the first time in my life. I wanted something to do that allowed flexibility as I am a single father of 3, and also coach high level soccer. Uber was a great option, because I decide to work as much or as little as I want.
Why do you enjoy driving with Uber?
I enjoy driving for Uber as I am pleasantly surprised how personable and talkative the riders are. I have been able to establish repeat customers by growing bonds with riders. It helps that they are so supportive of Uber, so as soon as they get in the vehicle it is already with a positive view of us.
What’s the best ride you’ve provided so far?
On NHL Draft day I picked up a star Oilers player and took him to Rexall Place for the event. He was very friendly, polite and supportive of Uber.
Is driving on the platform a good job option?
Driving is a good job option, but drivers have to remember that they will get out of it what they put in. If you are willing to put in the hours, effort and customer service, you can receive good financial rewards. As a former military policeman, I can also assure you that driving on the Uber platform is safe, thanks to cashless transactions and the many safety features embedded in the app.
Do you have any tips for fellow driver partners?
Be polite, friendly, honest and have a clean vehicle, after that just show great customer service and you will see the higher ratings, and enjoy what you do that much more overall.
