Since last September, nearly 2,000 Scarborough residents have earned extra income as uberX driver partners and that number is growing by leaps and bounds. Uber is announcing today that we will work to recruit 4,000 new drivers in Scarborough by the Fall of 2016.
Is Toronto a city that has embraced innovation to solve our biggest transportation challenges? Or have we fallen further behind because of regulatory inflexibility and political indecision? Uber is ready to commit to a long-term partnership with Toronto, working under smart regulations, to create jobs and improve transportation and congestion in our great city. Uber is thrilled to announce a relationship with Intact Financial, Canada’s largest home, auto and business insurer. We have been working with Intact Financial to develop an innovative, new insurance plan for ridesharing in Canada that we hope will come to market soon. This plan will be the first of its kind designed exclusively for the ridesharing industry in Canada.
City Hall is considering regulations for uberX and has asked for input from all Torontonians on their experience with Uber, taxis, and limousines in Toronto. We would truly appreciate you taking 5 mins to complete the City survey. The results will be used by City Hall to shape how ridesharing will be regulated in Toronto going forward.
