Allow us to reintroduce ourselves…

As many of you may have heard, a competitor of Uber Toronto’s has announced they will be shutting down operations in the city.

Competition is a good thing. It challenges a business to continually develop, innovate and deliver more value to consumers. Competition is something that has been absent from the Toronto taxi industry for far too many decades, and drivers and riders have suffered as a result.

Uber is committed to working our hardest – investing time and effort and continuously innovating our platform – to ensure each and every Torontonian has the choices they want and need.

So we thought we’d take this opportunity to reintroduce ourselves to our users in Toronto – and to those that have yet to meet us!

Uber Toronto began operations in March of 2012, with our initial offerings of UberBLACK. UberBLACK is our premium service, connecting users with commercially licensed limo drivers. UberBLACK is a great option for date night or a night out on the town.

Shortly thereafter, we brought you UberTAXI, you are connected to a city-licensed taxi and charged prices set by the City of Toronto that you see on the meter. UberTAXI users have a pre-set gratuity of 20% (i.e. your tip), but you can change this to your own preference – check out directions here.

For over two years now, our dedicated Uber Canada team in Toronto has grown and helped to change the way Torontonians think about their transportation options. With our newly launched ridesharing platform, uberX – a product that has been embraced all over the world – we are are showing our continued commitment to the people of this city who have demanded access to more transportation options at all price points. People are loving ridesharing because:

  • It’s 40% cheaper than a taxi (you should probably just stop reading here)
  • It’s a great opportunity to meet new people in your city
  • Our uberX drivers are vetted drivers – in fact we have more stringent background checks than the City of Toronto requires on a taxi driver

Our growing Canadian team cares deeply about our uses. In fact, we’re hiring all over the country (Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto to be exact) to bring you such important things such as Poutine On-Demand and free rides to important milestones like the Gold Medal game. And we’re proud to contribute to the communities in which we operate.

If you’re already a fan of Uber and know the joy of getting a ride anywhere and everywhere in Toronto, –we want to say thank you.. You are the reason we have been able to grow our business in Toronto, and we promise there are many exciting things that we’re planning to bring your way soon!

Lots of Uber love from the Toronto team
