This month marks Uber’s 4th year here in Massachusetts.
Over the last four years together, we’ve celebrated our hometown teams’ championships, proved our resilience in the wake of tragedy, dug ourselves out of a record snowfall, and watched our city blossom into one of the country’s leading tech capitals. These are just a few examples of how our Massachusetts community has proven its tremendous strength and we are proud to have been a part of this growth and change.
On this anniversary, let’s take a look at where we’ve been and—more importantly—where we’re headed together.
Over 1.75 million riders took 28 million trips with 45 thousand driver-partners in Massachusetts.
As Uber has grown in Massachusetts, so has our availability and reliability across the region. Uber trips have increased dramatically in areas like Mission Hill, Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan. Since launching in October 2011, Uber partners have completed nearly 3 million rides to, from, or within these four neighborhoods.
Trips in Mission Hill, Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan have grown 2.5x since 2014 alone.
Our reliability has also meant that riders can leave their keys at home, knowing they can count on Uber for a safe ride. Each Friday and Saturday between 10PM and 4AM, Uber facilitates nearly 70,000 trips in Boston. In fact, when the T closes on weekend nights, Uber requests more than double near popular stops like Park Street.
We’ve provided more choices not only for riders, but also thousands of driver-partners who use Uber to help power their own small businesses.
Over the last 4 years, Massachusetts riders and partners have logged 115 million miles together—that’s almost 500 trips to the moon.
Along the way, partners have earned hundreds of millions of dollars – including over $200m in the last 12 months alone – while setting their own schedules, on their own terms.
Recently, we asked a few of our partners why they chose to drive with Uber. A few of their answers are below:
As we look to the future, we’re excited about the recent introduction of uberPOOL in Boston. uberPOOL provides increased efficiency for partners and makes trips even more affordable for riders. At the same time, it cuts down on congestion in Boston, reduces the need for car ownership, and helps decrease carbon emissions. In just a few short months, Boston riders have already shared 200,000 rides with one another—that’s over 11x the undergraduate student population at BU.
It doesn’t stop here. We’re constantly innovating to ensure that residents and visitors alike have access to reliable transportation, economic opportunities, and cutting-edge safety features. It has been an incredible ride so far, and we look forward to continuing on this journey with all of you.
