We’ve teamed up with Mark Bouris and six of Australia’s top business leaders to bring UberPITCH to Australia.

Starting in Sydney at the SydStart conference on 29 October, UberPITCH is your chance to get in front of some of Australia’s most accomplished entrepreneurs.

Whether you have an ‘uber’ idea for an app or you’ve spent your weekends conjuring up the next big thing — request a ride from 10am – 2pm on Thursday 29 October and your dream could become a reality.

Top pitches of the day will appear on Bouris’ new web series, The Mark Bouris Show (, for the chance to secure funding, mentoring, prizes and a trip to San Francisco to meet with prominent Venture Capitalists.

Our UberPITCH Partner, Investible, will also be on the lookout for aspiring entrepreneurs passionate about social change. The future global thought leaders. The change-makers. Meet the UberPITCH panel

Mark Bouris has established a successful career from building disruptive businesses to challenge the market and provide smarter solutions for consumers. Mark’s current positions include Executive Chairman of Yellow Brick Road Group (ASX:YBR), Executive Chairman of TZ Limited (ASX:TZL) and Chairman of Anteo Diagnostics (ASX:ADO). He is also Adjunct Professor for Banking & Finance and Business Law & Tax at University of New South Wales Australian School of Business. In 2015, Mark was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the finance industry, particularly the home loan mortgage sector, to education, and to charitable organisations.


Chief Executive of the world’s largest freelancing and crowdsourcing marketplace. Matt Barrie, CEO of is an award winning entrepreneur, technologist and lecturer, having won numerous awards including being named the inaugural BRW Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011. He is also one of the worldwide Linkedin Influencers, along with Richard Branson, Barack Obama and Deepak Chopra, where he writes on the topics of entrepreneurship and technology.


Australia’s PR queen burst onto the scene when in 2004 at the age of 24 she started Sweaty Betty PR, a fashion, lifestyle and beauty PR firm. 11 years on Sweaty Betty has grown into one of Australia’s premier PR agencies behind some of Australia’s most well-known brands. Often referred to as the ‘hardest working woman in PR’, Roxy also found time to launch creative agency Ministry of Talent, released two novels and raise a young family.

Roxy brings a wealth of Marketing and PR knowledge to the Panel and most importantly knows what it takes to turn an idea or product into an international brand.


Daniel Petre has been a leading player in Australia’s technology industry for more than thirty years and has held leadership positions in technology-based businesses in Australia and the United States. Daniel’s experience includes over seven years as Executive Chairman of netus, five years as Founding Chairman of Ecorp, four years on the PBL Board and eight years with Microsoft Corporation, where he served as Vice President of the Workgroup Division, Director of Advanced Technology and Director of the Asia Pacific Region.

He has also served on a range of corporate and not-for profit boards in Australia and globally. He was made an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO), for distinguished service to Australia in 2005.


Sarah-Jane Clarke (Sass) is one half of the design duo behind sass&bide, together with Heidi Middleton (Bide). One of Australia’s most successful and stylish businesswomen, Sarah-Jane’s personal style, wit and free-spirit makes her the perfect partner, muse and inspiration for Creative Director Heidi Middleton.

Since its establishment, sass&bide has received international recognition, critical plaudits and is regularly worn by celebrity clientele with a clear sense of personal style. John Winning founded Appliances Online in 2005 at just 21 years of age with a laptop, rented truck, and a 1300 number diverted to a mobile phone. Determined to shake up the existing market.

Today, John leads four separate business entities and employs more than 500 staff across Australia as CEO of Winning Group; an Australian retail group including traditional bricks-and-mortar retailer Winning Appliances, pureplay online retailer Appliances Online, Clearance Outlet Electro Seconds and national installation & logistics company Handy Crew.

John was recognised as CEO Magazine’s Young Executive of the Year in 2012 and was also Retail Executive of the Year in 2013 and 2014.


Founding Director of Investible, Creel is one of Australia’s most prolific entrepreneurs. Described by Sir Richard Branson as ‘the living, breathing definition of an entrepreneur’, he has been championing entrepreneurship and social enterprise in Australia and around the globe for more than a decade. Creel co-founded Blueprint Management Group in 1996 with just $10,000 in capital and sold it a decade later for $109 million.

Following this success, he dedicated his career to encourage more globally inspired people to become entrepreneurs. His endeavours include founding the Club Kidpreneur Foundation, developing curriculum for the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship, training thousands of entrepreneurs in Decisionship, his unique business methodology, and publishing best-selling business book ‘The One Thing to Win at the Game of Business.‘

UberPITCH tips

The goal of any pitch is to open the door to a future conversations or opportunities. In order to ensure that you get your message across concisely, accurately and in a timely fashion, you should follow these Four Steps of a winning pitch.

  • STEP 1: “Short, Sharp and Shiny” – 60 secs, go!
  • STEP 2: “Compel not sell” – data and vision
  • STEP 3: “Relate and Reassure” – the solution
  • STEP 4: “The Clincher” – ask and next steps

How to UberPITCH your idea

  • Step 1 – open the Uber app between 10 am – 2pm on Thursday 29 October and slide over to the “UberPITCH” view.
  • Step 2 – request an UberPITCH ride.
  • Step 3 – If your request is accepted, a car will arrive in minutes with one of the seven business leaders.
  • Step 4 – pitch your idea. You’ll have 15 minutes, so make it count!

Note – rides will be limited and demand will be high – you may need to request more than once.
