Free uberX Weekend in the East Bay
Our East Bay checklist is nearly complete. Launch uberX? Check. Float across the Bay, mimic the ice cream man and deliver holiday cheer? Check, check and check. But there’s one thing on our list that we’ve yet to mark off…
We need to give away some free uberX rides.
This holiday weekend there’s a lot to celebrate and we’d like to join in by offering two FREE uberX trips between Friday, January 17 and Monday, January 20.
We’ve been waiting for the perfect time to share the #UberLove on the other side of that fancy new bridge, and this weekend just made too much sense. We recently slashed uberX prices, the Warriors are shooting the lights out, and Monday is the National Day of Service. Good people of the East Bay, this one’s for you.
FREE uberX RIDES ARE PRETTY GOOD. IS THAT ALL?
Not quite. On Monday, we’re partnering with two of the area’s organizations known for their commitment to community — the Golden State Warriors and the Alameda County Community Food Bank. Donate canned food to those in need and you will be entered to win tickets to an upcoming basketball game. If you think the Dubs are good at passing, you should check out the nearly 50,000 assists the Food Bank dishes out every week.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
- Scrounge up some cans to donate from your pantry (here’s what they need)
- On Monday, open the app and slide your thumb over to the can icon
- Request a ride, and within minutes an Uber will be en route to your location
- Hand the driver at least five canned items for donation
- Sit back, relax and know you’re helping those in need and were entered to win tickets to a Warriors game
And hey, if you haven’t used your two free rides by Monday night, why not roll over to the arena and watch the Royal Blue and Golden Yellow take on those guys from Indiana? That’s how Warriors small forward Harrison Barnes plans on getting to the game.
A FEW MORE THINGS…
Keep in mind that there will be high demand for uberX this weekend — the rides are free, after all. It may take a few tries to get a ride, but don’t get discouraged. And if you’re in a real rush, uberBLACK and uberSUV will be available like usual (though the promotion won’t apply).
We can’t wait to kick this off!

A new report conducted in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) reveals that when empowered with more transportation options like Uber, people are making better choices that save lives.
New technologies are creating opportunities no one could have imagined. To understand Uber’s place in that trend, we commissioned a survey of our driver-partners and put together a comprehensive analysis.
