Sticker Shock: The Remix
Your Uber is arriving now! Note that your fare will be…
0.75x the normal Uber fare. (Yep, you heard that right.)
You probably know that Uber uses a dynamic pricing model to ensure you always have a ride when you need one. Rain, rush hour, and major events can cause big spikes in demand; put ’em all together (think DreamForce or playoff season) and you’ve created the perfect storm of surge pricing.
Higher rates keep cars open on those crazy days when you can’t find a single cab, bus, or Segway in the 7×7, but what happens on holiday weekends when SF already has a surplus of empty vehicles on the road?
…Introducing the sunny side of surge! If you’re hanging around town this Memorial Day, all fares will be 25% less than usual — proof that sticker shock doesn’t have to be a bad thing. From 5 p.m. Friday till 11:59 p.m. Monday, 0.75x pricing will be in effect on all vehicle options except TAXI . Uber Black will cost about as little as UBERx, and UBERx will cost less than a cab. Your “discount” won’t appear as a separate line item on your receipt, but will be applied to each component of your ride (i.e. minimum fare, $/mile charge, and $/minute charge).
With such reliable and affordable transportation at your fingertips, it’s the perfect time to finally get a taste of Fentons Creamery or plan a picnic on Tomales Bay. The whole Bay Area is your oyster: where will you go?
We have developed a new pilot program – Xchange Leasing – which is a leasing option administered by an Uber subsidiary and designed to fit with the flexibility that drivers value most. The Xchange lease is one of a kind, and offers value that traditional auto leases do not provide. Unlike most multi-year leases that have high fees for early termination, drivers who participate in Xchange for at least 30 days will be able to return the car with only two weeks notice, and limited additional costs. The program allows for unlimited mileage and the option to lease a used car, with routine maintenance also included.
A new report conducted in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) reveals that when empowered with more transportation options like Uber, people are making better choices that save lives.
New technologies are creating opportunities no one could have imagined. To understand Uber’s place in that trend, we commissioned a survey of our driver-partners and put together a comprehensive analysis.
