Uber’s door is always open
We’ve confirmed that one Uber partner driver, the one pictured in various blog posts, was temporarily interrupted from providing service during Saturday’s protest. While Uber supports community action and political movements that work towards a common goal, there is no place for violence or scare tactics used against hard working Seattlites in modern discourse. Tens of thousands of residents in Seattle have voiced their support for the ridesharing economy and thousands more are benefiting, both as riders and drivers, from transportation competition and choice.
Uber provides a technology platform that enables residents across Seattle to get to their destination safely while supporting thousands of local, small businesses. Uber offers both UberBLACK, the original ride, and uberX, a more affordable option priced cheaper than a taxi. Uber partner drivers, on average, earn more than $15/hour and double that during peak times.
Many of the small business owners we partner with are college students, immigrants and residents looking to supplement their income. Rather than paying high lease fees to taxi companies, these partner drivers own their own vehicles and set their own schedules. We are proud of what we have built in Seattle and will continue to provide safe, affordable and reliable transportation options.
Uber has been part of the Seattle community for years – we live, breath and work in and around Seattle. We’re your neighbors, friends and colleagues. We love this city like you do and we are here to stay. We want to be part of the community dialogue and our door is always open.
If you have any concerns or questions, please email me. I would love to set up a time to sit down and speak with you.

We have developed a new pilot program – Xchange Leasing – which is a leasing option administered by an Uber subsidiary and designed to fit with the flexibility that drivers value most. The Xchange lease is one of a kind, and offers value that traditional auto leases do not provide. Unlike most multi-year leases that have high fees for early termination, drivers who participate in Xchange for at least 30 days will be able to return the car with only two weeks notice, and limited additional costs. The program allows for unlimited mileage and the option to lease a used car, with routine maintenance also included.
A new report conducted in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) reveals that when empowered with more transportation options like Uber, people are making better choices that save lives.
New technologies are creating opportunities no one could have imagined. To understand Uber’s place in that trend, we commissioned a survey of our driver-partners and put together a comprehensive analysis.
