Amchi Mumbai, Amcha Uber! Mumbai, your secret Ubers are arriving now…
Mumbai – Maximum City, India’s financial capital, the city of millions of hopes and dreams, home of the great Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood’s playground, known for its dabbawallas, pav bhaji, cutting chai, vada pav, Bambaiya-Hindi, super-prime real estate, ever-optimistic spirit and non-pretentious chilled-out-ness amongst other strokes that paint this masterpiece of a city – woke up to news of secret Ubers roaming the streets.
As our sleek Ubers started making the rounds, word got around fast. From the bustling ‘patli galis’ around Dalal Street to the sunny Band Stand promenade; from the giant corporate parks in Bandra Kurla Complex to the busy shops at Crawford Market, a whole lot of Mumbaikars were racing to grab that coveted Rider Zero spot!
Bollywood had a ‘dhamakedaar’ entrance with Mr. India, Anil Kapoor himself, making a swashbuckling Jai Singh Rathod (India’s answer to Jack Bauer) appearance out of nowhere to grab the first Uber at his Juhu residence. Within minutes of him pressing the button that so many people love, Mahendra appeared curbside in a stately BMW 7-Series that scurried the Slumdog Millionaire star off to his latest shoot at Filmcity.
The Bollywood fraternity was only just getting wind of the news. We caught Bollywood producer Arbaaz Khan getting a last minute Uber ride at the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and zipping off to an afternoon meeting. Meanwhile, on the other side of town, India’s first and only actor-rugby player-philanthropist Rahul Bose didn’t miss the Uber party either. We got a quick on-the-go shot of Rahul as he was getting into a stunning black beemer that was outshone only by the beautiful Taj Mahal Palace and Gateway of India in its backdrop.
Uber helps big cities function better, and Mumbai is going to be one of the greatest Uber love stories ever told. In an alpha-city the size and stature of Mumbai, it is often difficult to make an impact in the grand scheme of things. We’re here to take that challenge head on!

Uber On, Boss…
Today, we are excited to announce that Uber will give $5.5M to support a new robotics faculty chair as well as three fellowships at CMU. This gift is part of a partnership we announced earlier this year. In addition, we’re pumped to be part of a growing innovation ecosystem in Pittsburgh that includes world leading research institutions and companies, as well as an increasing number of start-ups.
A new report conducted in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) reveals that when empowered with more transportation options like Uber, people are making better choices that save lives.
