Uber Boston Has Been Served
Update: Thank you for all the email, tweets, and FB posts! In less than 24 hours, we were able to work with the the State to keep Uber operating in the Hub, in no small part due to your support. Governor Patrick and his team really stepped up to support innovation in the Commonwealth. Today was a big win for Boston’s tech community and for all of its citizens that deserve the Uber transportation alternative. You can read the official statement here.
Uber Boston has been issued a cease and desist from the Division of Standards of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In essence, the Division of Standards is claiming that until the National Institute of Standards and Technology has guidelines in place for GPS location technology, we cannot provide our application to the public. As we did extensive legal research prior to entering the city of Boston, it is our strong belief that the technology and service we offer does not violate existing law and regulations.
Uber is a first to market, cutting edge transportation technology and the simple fact is that the Commonwealth’s regulations were not written with these innovations in mind. As such, we are committed to dialogue with the Division on this new generation of technology and to working closely with the agency to keep our service available for our truly Uber users and their drivers.
Our commitment is to facilitate an improved transportation option that provides safe, reliable, and convenient travel for Greater Boston. That will not change. We strongly believe that the consumer has every right to new, innovative technology that makes their lives better and easier, and that the consumer’s needs should always come first. Uber will continue full speed ahead with the mission of making Boston and the surrounding areas a great place to live and travel and the Commonwealth the Hub of cutting edge technology.
A typical ride: you request, have small talk with your driver, and safely get where you need to go. For Jonathan, a driver-partner in California, his rides are anything but ordinary — he wants his passengers to have fun and turned each trip into a dance party — and now the latest viral video. We caught up with the man in front of the cam to learn more about what inspired him to create this feel-good video.
A new report conducted in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) reveals that when empowered with more transportation options like Uber, people are making better choices that save lives.
New technologies are creating opportunities no one could have imagined. To understand Uber’s place in that trend, we commissioned a survey of our driver-partners and put together a comprehensive analysis.
