Uber Partners: Proud to Say ‘I’m Driving You’
From first-time entrepreneurs to seasoned driving professionals, the people who give you safe, reliable, comfortable rides using Uber’s platform are simply the best in the business. Our partners — your drivers — are the engine behind Uber and we’re proud to work with them in about 80 cities around the world.
Here are a few stories about the men and women who are excited to say “I’m Driving You” as they get you where you need to go efficiently and affordably with uberX:
I heard about Uber when I was driving a taxi in San Francisco and decided to switch over to uberX as soon as I could, so I could be my own boss. The fact that I could set my own hours and drive whenever I wanted to was appealing. So was the fact that I didn’t have to look for riders on the street. I’m driving with uberX full-time now and I feel safer, knowing I’m always going to be paid and no cash changes hands. I feel like if you’re doing this for a living, you should do it well. I know the city, I love to drive, and it shows. I try to give my passengers the best possible experience in my car and I have a great time doing it.
– Igor in San Francisco
I’m a full-time student and it was hard for me to continue my studies while working part-time at a gas station. I had a fixed schedule on the weekends, and didn’t have any options to make money if I was free on a weekday. Partnering with Uber has given me the opportunity to drive any time I like, allowing me to create a balance between my full-time study and driving. I can also earn about twice as much as I used to as a cashier in the same number of hours. Uber has made my life much easier than it was before.
— Saravpreet in Seattle
My husband became ill about two years ago and our son had a seizure a short time later. I became very stressed and resigned from my job, but needed to find a way to support my family. Partnering with Uber has allowed me to meet new people, gain confidence about living life again, and make money to care for my family. Being able to drive when I want to has let me spend more time with my children, which is important to me, and I can help with their school activities and attend field trips. It has been a blessing to partner with Uber and it makes me feel good to know that I’m helping people get around town safely.
— Tricia in Chicago
For over five years, I drove a taxi and now I drive my new personal car with uberX. With a $672 weekly cab lease, I paid more than $34,000 a year to lease a Metro Taxi. First I had to make enough money to pay off my cab lease, then work many more hours to generate income. There were weeks and months I made well below minimum wage. With uberX, I can have a living wage, more family time, and drive fewer hours. I call it emancipation.
— Ali in Denver
I started using uberX as a rider a couple of months ago after a friend told me how awesome it is. Once I took a few rides, I decided to sign up as a driver so I could help give Boston a better transportation experience. I only drive when my schedule allows (I’m newly married and in the Air Force) but I feel good about giving people a reliable, personable experience when they need to get from point A to point B. I love hearing about the amazing lives of my passengers and, in turn, telling them my story. Driving with uberX also lets me pay off my car and student loans so my wife and I can focus on other things like saving to buy a house and take a vacation. I drive the “USAF S40” on weekday mornings and I hope to be your driver soon!
— Dylan in Boston
From the moment I received my driver’s license, I have always been driving someone. At 16 years old, I became a driver for my church pastor, and in college, I sang for the choir and was the director’s personal assistant and driver. More than 25 years later, driving has become my career. With encouragement from my family and friends to start my own transportation company, I learned about Uber and became a partner. Uber has given me the opportunity to start my own business – and this has been one of the best decisions of my life. I believe liberation is being able to do what you love and Uber has provided exactly that!
— James in Baltimore
While Igor, Saravpreet, Tricia, Ali, Dylan and James are providing high-quality rides at a price that is usually less than a taxi, Uber works hard to ensure that all partner-drivers have gone through rigorous screening and background checks. We also offer robust insurance coverage for ridesharing drivers, including $1 million of liability coverage per incident, $1 million of uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage per incident, and collision cost coverage.
We think it’s incredibly important for you to know who’s driving you. That’s why we provide your driver’s name, photo, car type, and license plate number before your ride and actively seek feedback when your ride is over. As always, if you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, local Uber Community Managers are standing by to help.
Today, we are excited to announce that Uber will give $5.5M to support a new robotics faculty chair as well as three fellowships at CMU. This gift is part of a partnership we announced earlier this year. In addition, we’re pumped to be part of a growing innovation ecosystem in Pittsburgh that includes world leading research institutions and companies, as well as an increasing number of start-ups.
A new report conducted in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) reveals that when empowered with more transportation options like Uber, people are making better choices that save lives.
